Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Sexual Harassment Attorney Massachusetts, Sexual Harassment Laws MA, Sexual Harassment Law Firm

Every year, around 15,000 sexual harassment cases are brought to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Surveys show that 40% - 60% of U.S. women being sexually harassed are being victimized in the workplace. Offensive behavior can occur from many different types of people in the workplace such as:

  • The Power-Player
  • Counselor or somebody you look up to
  • Somebody who is considered just "One-of-the-Gang"
  • The Groper - Wandering eyes and hands
  • The Opportunist - Takes advantage of private meetings
  • A Stalker
  • Sexual harassment can occur in any place at any time and can occur to both men and women. Laws have been created to protect employees from sexual discrimination in the workplace. Sexual harassment is prohibited by law and forces employers to be responsible in awareness about inappropriate sexual conduct in the workplace, and taking steps in prevention.

    Sexual Harassment Laws

The Sexual Harassment Laws apply to private and public employers, labor organizations and employment agencies with 15 or more employees. Sexual Harassment is a form of discrimination that is in direct violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to employment agencies, employers, labor organizations and the federal government. Requests for sexual favors and advances and any form of sexual mis-conduct - whether it is verbal, physical or visual can be considered sexual harassment if it is severe or pervasive and unwanted. The victim's work performance is generally impacted as a result of such intimidating behavior creating a hostile work environment.

    Sexual Harassment Prevention

The best protection for employers is Sexual Harassment Prevention. Prevention requires training and education of employees. It also requires active involvement from employers to take steps necessary in preventing any type of Sexual Discrimination from occurring. It is important that employees know the Sexual Harassment Policy of the company.
